SPRX - Why We Invested

A common refrain in venture is that execution matters most, meaning that while ideas are everywhere, actually getting something built is hard. Every so often, though, a company appears that extends this truism to the product itself. Almost everyone knows about the R&D tax credit—it’s hardly a secret—but actually getting the credits in practice is incredibly expensive and time-consuming. The process itself is the barrier, and so many businesses are locked out by it that an estimated $4 billion is left on the table every year.

As such, we’re thrilled to announce our investment in SPRX, an AI-powered tax system that automates this laborious process. SPRX not only calculates the appropriate credit, it compiles the relevant memos, documents, schedules, and audit support, democratizing access to these savings and relieving businesses of the crushing burden of compiling all of it manually.

The team behind this investment is classic Restive: a founder who began his career at a big-five firm and became frustrated with the complexity and cost of accessing savings that were designed to spur innovation. Dominic Vitucci decided that he’d had enough of client services and decided to build a product that simply did the job. No golf outings or steak dinners—just tax savings.

SPRX exemplifies the way that we see LLMs revolutionizing certain industries. Ingesting huge amounts of unstructured data and preparing highly structured reports is something at which these models excel and yet takes hundreds of man-hours to complete for human bookkeepers. Using technology to democratize access to financial savings and open up access to business that may not have even considered their eligibility is right up our alley here at Restive, and we could not be more excited to be a part of SPRX’s journey!
